Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! I am excited to be partnered with Grow Therapy to offer therapy to individuals who would like to use their insurance. I am able to take Aetna, Anthem, Cigna/Evernorth, United Healthcare/Optum, and will soon be able to take Humana. I am not currently able to take Medicaid or Medicare. If you would like to use your insurance, please let me know.

A Superbill is basically an invoice that I give to you that lists important information like dates of service and amounts paid. You meet with me for therapy and pay for the sessions. At the end of each month, I provide you with a superbill that you can then give to your insurance company. Your insurance company will decide if/how much they will reimburse you for the services you paid for. Please note: you are responsible for all fees at the time of service. I cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you for some or all of the session fees.

I understand that not everyone is able to pay the full fee for counseling services. I am happy to discuss this with you during our initial phone consultation. Additionally, there are programs like Open Path Collective that connect individuals to lower-fee services in their area. Check them out here.

I’m sorry to hear that you are having financial difficulty. Please bring this up in our next session or give me a call to discuss our options further.

Yes. If you have had a change in your financial situation and are able to pay more for services, please bring this up in your next session or give me a call to discuss this further.

At this time, all services are completed via telehealth.

Yes! All services are offered through telehealth using a secure platform.

This is a good question! Research is increasingly showing that teletherapy is just as effective as in-person therapy (thanks, COVID!). However, it is not for everyone. If you are wondering if telehealth would work for you, please reach out for us to discuss further.

Well, I’m glad you asked! COVID has taught me some important things about telehealth.
  1. People in rural areas have access to help. It is super important that everyone who wants mental healthcare can access mental healthcare. With so many Hoosiers living in rural areas where resources are scarce, telehealth makes it easier for those individuals to connect with helping professionals.
  2. People with transportation or mobility issues have access to care. Individuals who are unable to drive, take public transportation, or get around easily are now able to access services much more easily than they were before!
  3. You get to be in an environment that is safe and comfortable for you. Many people view their homes as their ‘secure place”- their stuff is there, their pets are there, and they can be in their jammies if they want (no judgement).
You have all of your comforts with you RIGHT THERE while we are talking about and working through difficult things. Again, telehealth is not for everyone. Some people do not feel secure to talk about difficult things in their homes and would prefer in-office appointments. This is totally valid! If you are in the Southern Indiana region, please reach out for referrals for in-person services to meet your needs.

Sessions typically last about 50 minutes.

This often depends on each person’s treatment goals, scheduling ability, and length of time in treatment. For new clients, I recommend meeting on a weekly basis so that we can put in enough time to set and work on treatment goals. If you are unable to meet weekly, please reach out to discuss this further.

This is a great question! In our work together, we will set specific goals- whether that’s reducing anxiety, managing depression, or improving your PTSD symptoms. When we both see positive changes in your symptoms, we will move into a “maintenance” phase of treatment. This means that we’ll work on any remaining goals, begin meeting less often, and ensure that you are maintaining your improvements over time. Once we are both comfortable with your progress, we will terminate services. This means that we won’t schedule any further therapy appointments and your case will be closed.

You are in control of your services and your life. If you feel that you no longer need services, please communicate that with me. It is really important to the therapeutic process and our working relationship that termination happens with proper goodbyes.

The therapeutic relationship (the professional helping relationship that we create) is SO important for you to succeed in reaching your therapeutic goals! If something is not working, you don’t like the direction we’re going in, or I have said or done something that has caused you frustration, PLEASE PLEASE tell me. I know that it can be scary to confront these types of things. It is SO important that we address any issues that may come up- believe it or not, it will most likely help you make progress on your therapy goals! If you do not feel comfortable bringing this up in a therapy session, please send a secure message so that I can be informed and we can begin to address your concerns. If for some reason we are unable to work through the difficulty, we can discuss terminating services and referrals to other helping professionals.

No. My clients and I enter into a specific therapeutic relationship. We cannot be friends outside of this relationship. In fact, there are pretty clear rules on this that I have to follow! I can’t work with people that I have family/social connections to and I can’t have social connections with people that I currently work with or with people that I’ve worked with in the past. This is to protect you, your right to privacy, and to prevent any confusing boundary issues from coming up. Rooted Wisdom Counseling Services does maintain professional social media accounts, which are used exclusively to share blog posts and related content. While it may seem counter-intuitive, I actually discourage my clients from following these pages due to social media’s policies on user data and privacy concerns.

Did you know that if you put Rooted Wisdom Counseling Services’ information into your phone, have contacts synced and then follow the social media page that you will be given friend suggestions based on others who follow the page as well? That means, if you follow the page, you are risking others finding out that you utilize my services. That may be okay for some, but not for others. I cannot help protect your right to privacy if you choose to follow the company’s social media accounts. I encourage you to exercise caution when using social media for any purposes.

Finally, social media is a BAD way to try to get a hold of me. Those pages are not actively monitored (between you and me, a robot uploads all of the posts and I rarely check accounts). It’s also not super safe (for the above mentioned privacy reasons). If you need to get a hold of me, I strongly encourage you to either give me a call or send me a secure message through your client portal. *Please note that you will get a response only during business hours, so do not use these means of communication if you’re having an emergency. If there’s an emergency, please refer to your safety plan and/or call emergency services/ hotlines.

Absolutely! If there is a topic that you’d like to have covered in a blog post, or a topic that you think others might benefit from, please let me know.
