The Lotus Flower: A Logo with a Deeper Meaning

Intro:

What’s in a logo? Well, a logo often gives the “first impression” of a company to current and prospective clients. My husband, who specializes in this sort of thing, could go on about the importance of logo design. For my purpose, though, I want to answer your burning question about Rooted Wisdom’s logo: why the lotus? To better answer this question, let’s dive into a little history and my own philosophy.

History:

In Buddhism, the lotus flower is often depicted as a symbol for enlightenment. Lotuses grow in rivers. Their seeds are nestled in the muddy river bed. Roots burst from the seeds and grow upward, reaching for the water’s surface. Once on the surface, a flower begins to bloom. Although the plant begins its life in muddy, dark waters, it emerges clean and beautiful on the water’s surface. Buddhists, among others, view the lotus’s life cycle as a symbol for the individual’s pursuit for enlightenment and freedom from suffering. The lotus is also a symbol of resilience, the pursuit of wisdom, and harmony among diverging feelings.

My philosophy:

From the time that I learned about this incredible plant, I have deeply resonated with its symbolism. The lotus is resilient. It struggles through murky waters, but finds itself firmly planted and able to reach its potential. Though we may come from a murky, muddy beginning, we are able to find our roots and blossom. The lotus flower is often used as a symbol for the pursuit of harmony, wisdom, and enlightenment. I believe that on some level, we are all on this pursuit in our own lives and in our own ways. Often, when a person is seeking therapy or counseling, they are in the pursuit of growth, much like the lotus.

Conclusion

As a therapist, my decision to include the lotus flower in the logo for Rooted Wisdom Counseling Services was a mindful act in order to symbolize my belief in human potential and beauty. It is also a symbol for the work we will do together in therapy. Like the lotus, we will be on our own journey working to honor past parts, find resilience, and reach the level of wisdom, enlightenment, and harmony that you are seeking.
